Xi’an Jiaotong University is a prestigious higher education institution both domestically and internationally, directly under the Ministry of Education. It was founded in Shanghai in 1896, relocated to Xi’an in 1956, and officially named Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1959. It is a comprehensive research-oriented university with a focus on science and engineering, covering a wide range of disciplines including science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, and arts. The university comprises 34 schools (departments, centers), 9 undergraduate colleges, and 3 directly affiliated hospitals. It currently has 6,568 regular employees, including 3,755 full-time teachers. Among the faculty, 588 individuals have been selected into major talent programs such as academicians and Outstanding Young Scholars, 51 teams have been recognized as innovative groups, 450 experts have made outstanding contributions and enjoy special government allowances, and there are 11 distinguished teaching masters.


The university was a key construction unit during the “Seventh Five-Year” and “Eighth Five-Year” plans, and was among the first to enter the “211” and “985” projects. It is also a member of the C9 University Alliance, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, and the University Presidents’ Roundtable. In 2017, it was selected as a Class A university in the national “Double First-Class” construction initiative.
