Currently, there are four test methods available for salt spray test chamber equipment. What are these classifications? In fact, the equipment can perform acetic acid salt spray test, cyclic salt spray test, neutral salt spray test, and copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test. This article provides a brief introduction to these four types of tests.
Working Procedure of Neutral Salt Spray Test: Since test specimens cannot directly contact the salt spray test chamber箱体, they need to be placed or suspended on racks. If the object is sheet-like, it should be positioned at an angle of 15 to 30 degrees to the horizontal plane. There are two forms of spraying: continuous and intermittent. Continuous spraying, as the name implies, involves non-stop spraying with observations conducted according to specified time periods. Intermittent spraying involves spraying for eight hours and stopping for sixteen hours, generally using one day (24 hours) as an observation period.
After understanding the neutral salt spray test, let us introduce another test method developed on its basis—the acetic acid salt spray test. The corrosion rate of the acetic acid salt spray test is approximately three times faster than that of the neutral salt spray test. This test involves adding a certain amount of glacial acetic acid to a 5% concentration salt solution (sodium chloride), thereby reducing the solution’s pH value to around 3 and making it acidic, thus transforming the neutral salt spray into an acidic one.
The copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test is a rapid salt spray corrosion test developed abroad. The temperature for this test is 50 degrees Celsius. The corrosion rate of this test is approximately 8 times that of the neutral salt spray test, because a small amount of copper salt (copper chloride) is added to the salt solution, which can rapidly induce corrosion.
Additionally, there is a comprehensive salt spray test—the cyclic salt spray test. This test combines constant humidity and heat testing with neutral salt spray testing, enabling penetration in moist environments. This test causes salt spray corrosion not only on the surface of the test specimen but also internally.
