What is a HAST Accelerated Aging Test Chamber and Its Principle

Source:LINPIN Time:2025-06-20 Category:Industry News

A HAST Accelerated Aging Test Chamber (Highly Accelerated Stress Test Chamber) is a laboratory device used to simulate an accelerated aging environment. It is mainly used to evaluate the performance and durability of electronic components, semiconductor chips, and other materials under high-temperature, high-humidity, and high-pressure conditions.
HAST test chamber
The principles are as follows:
High Temperature: The HAST test chamber accelerates the aging process of materials by setting a high temperature (usually 130℃). High temperature can speed up chemical reactions and physical changes, simulating the aging of products over a long period of use.
High Humidity: The relative humidity inside the test chamber is usually set at around 85%. This high humidity condition can accelerate the penetration of moisture through external protective materials or the seal packaging around chip leads, thereby assessing the moisture resistance of products in high-temperature and high-humidity environments.
High Pressure: The HAST test chamber increases atmospheric pressure within a controlled pressure vessel, which can typically reach 3 atm or higher, to achieve temperature and humidity control above 100℃. The increase in pressure can accelerate the aging effects of temperature and humidity on materials, such as material migration, corrosion, and insulation degradation.
Bias Voltage (bHAST): In some HAST tests, in addition to high-temperature, high-humidity, and high-pressure conditions, bias voltage can also be applied to samples. This simulates the electrical stress that may be encountered in actual use, to assess the durability of electronic components under electrical stress.
Non-saturated Steam Testing: The HAST test chamber usually refers to non-saturated steam testing with a relative humidity of 85%, which is different from the PCT test chamber (usually referring to saturated steam testing with 100% relative humidity). The HAST test chamber completes the test by setting and creating various conditions of temperature, humidity, and pressure within a highly controlled pressure vessel.
The HAST Accelerated Aging Test Chamber is widely used in the accelerated aging life tests of products in industries such as IC semiconductors, connectors, printed circuit boards, magnetic materials, high molecular materials, EVA, and photovoltaic modules.

Aging test chambers are widely used across various industries and come in many types. So, what are the different types, and what are their purposes?
One of Linpin's standout products, the high-low temperature test chamber, excels with its impressive heating rate (1.0~3.0℃/min), cooling rate (0.7~1.0℃/min), and thoughtful multi-segment temperature range settings (A: -20℃ to 150℃; B: -40℃ to 150℃; C: -60℃ to 150℃; D: -70℃ to 150℃).
High and low temperature humidity test chambers require electricity to operate, which inevitably leads to energy consumption. Saving electricity not only reduces energy waste but also lowers the operational costs of the equipment.
If you find that the circulating water pressure in your thermal shock test chamber is insufficient, how should you resolve it? To address the issue at its root and prevent recurrence, we need to promptly identify and troubleshoot the problem based on the actual situation.
The composite salt spray test chamber, as an advanced environmental simulation device, simulates the salt spray conditions found in marine or other corrosive environments to conduct accelerated corrosion tests on materials, coatings, electronic components, etc., in order to evaluate their corrosion resistance.
